PRIME Minister Tony Abbott says he'll bend every fibre of his being to do the job but won't be perfect and will sometimes disappoint.
MR Abbott acknowledged the recent spill motion was a humbling but instructive experience from which he had learned.
Asked if he would ever consider resigning and handing over to another leader, he said he was determined not to get into that position.He said he was elected by the party and people to do a job and was determined to do that job to the best of his ability."Will I be perfect - of course I won't. Will I sometimes be a disappointment - of course I will. But I am absolutely confident the party and the public expect me to do this job," he told Sky News."I will bend every fibre of my being, I will spend every ounce of energy that I have to do this job as well as it humanly can be done.Mr Abbott drew inspiration from former Liberal prime minister Robert Menzies who still won the 1963 election despite trailing in the polls.He said he'd been reading the new book on the Menzies era by former prime minister John Howard.In Menzies' case, he trailed by seven points at the start of the 1963 campaign and went on to an impressive victory.Mr Abbott said no successful leader had not gone through some crisis and invariably it was their response which was the measure of their long-term success."I think I have learned from this experience.
