THE family of jailed Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has sought a royal pardon for him, a spokesman for his party says.
THE initiative to seek a royal pardon was made by his family and not by his party, People's Justice Party communications director Fahmi Fadzil said.
Wan Azizah Ismail, Anwar's wife and the president of the party, was accompanied by some of her children when she submitted the plea for a royal pardon at the palace.On February 10, Anwar began serving a five-year jail sentence at Sungai Buloh Prison, near the capital Kuala Lumpur, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction for sodomising his former aide in 2008.A royal pardon is the only recourse for Anwar to regain his freedom after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence.Anda sedang membaca artikel tentang
